How to use the unit converter

  1. Pick the category (length, mass, temperature, volume and so on).
  2. Choose the unit you have and the unit you want.
  3. Type a value and read the converted result instantly.

Conversions run in your browser, so they are fast and work offline once the page has loaded.

How conversion works

Most units convert by a fixed ratio to a base unit: there are exactly 2.54 centimetres in an inch and 1000 grams in a kilogram, so the tool scales through the base unit to reach your target. Temperature is the exception, because Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin have different zero points, so they convert with a formula rather than a single multiplier. The tool handles both correctly.

Where you'd use this

Recipes, travel, shipping, gym equipment and any document written for the other measurement system.

For example: A US recipe calls for a 9×13 inch pan at 350°F. That is 23×33cm at 175°C — and knowing the tin is the standard European roasting size saves buying a new one.
