What a tier list is
A tier list ranks a set of things into labelled bands, most often S, A, B, C, D, where S sits above A as the very best. It started as a way to rank characters in fighting and competitive games and has since spread to ranking anything: movies, snacks, football players, programming languages. The rows turn a fuzzy "which is better" debate into a clear, shareable picture.
Tips for a good one
- Decide what you are ranking for (power, fun, value) so placements are consistent.
- Use the middle tiers freely; not everything is S or D.
- Export and post it to spark the inevitable friendly argument.
