Per-person amounts are rounded to the cent; the last person may differ by a cent. Everything is computed locally.

How to use the tip calculator

  1. Enter the bill total and choose a tip percentage.
  2. See the tip amount and the new total.
  3. To split it, set the number of people and read the per-person share.

How much to tip

Tipping customs vary by country and setting, but in the US a common guide for table service is around 15% for adequate service, 18–20% for good service, and more for exceptional service. The maths is simple: the tip is the percentage of the bill, and the total is the bill plus the tip. The calculator does it instantly so you avoid mental arithmetic at the table.

Splitting a bill fairly

Where you'd use this

Splitting a restaurant bill without doing arithmetic in front of everyone, especially when the tip percentage and the number of people are both awkward.

For example: A $187.40 dinner for five with a 18% tip comes to $221.13, or $44.23 each — which is the number to send in the group chat before anyone starts rounding in their own favour.
